Dermatomyositis is an autoimmune disease of connective tissue, where the body's immune system mistakenly attacks healthy cells. Symptoms include blue/purple rashes over the skin and muscle weakness in the arms and legs. Treatment for the muscle weakness is with corticosteroid drugs and physical therapy. The skin rashes are treated with antimalarial drugs and sun protection measures.
