Caption: Mosquito larva. Darkfield illuminated light micrograph of the larva of a mosquito (family Culicidae), showing its head (upper left) and hair-like projections along its segmented body. Mosquito larvae are aquatic and breath through spiracles located on their abdomen, or through a siphon (breathing tube) on the end of their body. Their head has mouth brushes wither side of it that are used for feeding. Magnification: x28, when printed 10 centimetres wide.
