Caption: Satirical map for lovers. 19th-century satirical map on the topic of love and relationships, titled: 'Map of Matrimony on Mercator's projection shewing to timid lovers the orbit of affection to the true haven of conjugal happiness'. A schooner yacht 'Pinta' is shown sailing the 'Ocean of Admiration'. Other satirical and allegorical names include 'Isles of Jealousy', 'Sea of Scandal', 'Gulf of Flirtation', 'Brides Bay', 'Honeymoon Territory', 'Mountains of Vanity', and 'Land of Lawyers'. The map takes the form of a word puzzle, described in the text at bottom. This puzzle, of a type that was common at the time, dates from around 1880.
