Caption: Church of the Nativity, Bethlehem, 1890s. The Church of the Nativity is a basilica originally commissioned in 327 AD by Constantine and his mother Helena over the site that is still traditionally considered the birthplace of Jesus of Nazareth. The Church of the Nativity is a World Heritage Site. This image was part of a book that was sold as a souvenir for the increasing number of tourists flocking to the Holy Land in the late 19th century. This book paired photographs of sacred places with collages of dried flowers from the sites.
