Caption: 2010 Eyjafjallajokull eruption. Aerial view of the Eyjafjallajokull volcano, Iceland, during the 2010 eruption. When this glaciated volcano erupted in spring 2010 the dark ash and gas clouds that were released into the sky grounded all air traffic as far as Southern Europe. For several weeks the heat caused large amounts of ice to melt and evaporate.
