Caption: British astronaut Timothy Peake (born 1972) and Director General of the European Space Agency (ESA) Jan Woerner (born 1954) walking to the launch pad, Baikonur Cosmodrome, Kazakhstan. Peake is the first British citizen to be chosen as an astronaut by ESA. He launched in Soyuz TMA-19M on the 15th August 2015 and successfully docked with the International Space Station (ISS), where he will stay until May 2016. During his stay Peake will undertak experiments on changes to the human body in space, and the survival of microorganisms in space, amongst others.
