Caption: Skull of Homo heidelbergensis (sometimes called Homo rhodesiensis), an extinct species of the genus Homo which lived from 1.3 million to 600,000 years ago. Neanderthals and modern humans are both descended from H. heidlbergensis. This skull, found in Steinham, Germany, is about 350,000 to 250,000 years old. Cast of the original.
