Caption: LIBRARY Molecular graphic illustration of cytosine. Cytosine is a pyrimidine-derived nucleic acid, found in DNA and RNA. The atoms of the molecule have been colour-coded: yellow = carbon, blue = nitrogen, cyan = hydrogen, red = oxygen. In DNA cytosine always bonds to guanine, the linkage being made by three hydrogen bonds. The bonding sites are the oxygen, nitrogen and hydrogen atoms found on the upper right 'face' of the molecule. Cytosine is also known as 2-oxy-4-aminopyrimidine.
