Caption: LIBRARY Molecular graphic illustration of thymine. Thymine is a pyrimidine-derived nucleic acid, found in DNA. The atoms of the molecule have been colour- coded: yellow = carbon, blue = nitrogen, cyan = hydrogen, red = oxygen. In DNA thymine always bonds to adenine, the linkage being made by two hydrogen bonds. The bonding sites are the oxygen above centre frame and the hydrogen just below and to the left. Thymine is also known as 5-methyl- 2,6-dioxytetrahydropyrimidine.
