Caption: LIBRARY Molecular graphic illustration of adenine. Adenine is a purine-derived nucleic acid, found in DNA and RNA. The atoms of the molecule have been colour- coded: yellow = carbon, blue = nitrogen, cyan = hydrogen. In DNA adenine always bonds to thymine and in RNA it bonds to uracil, the linkage being made by two hydrogen bonds. The bonding sites are the nitrogen slightly above and to the right of centre frame and the hydrogen just below and to the right. Adenine is also known as 6-aminopurine.
