Caption: LIBRARY Molecular graphic illustration of guanine. Guanine is a purine-derived nucleic acid, found in DNA and RNA. The atoms of the molecule have been colour- coded: yellow = carbon, blue = nitrogen, cyan = hydrogen, red = oxygen. In DNA and RNA guanine always bonds to cytosine, the linkage being made by three hydrogen bonds. The bonding sites are the oxygen and two hydrogens on the far right of the molecule. Guanine is also known as 6-hydroxy-2- aminopurine.
