Caption: Volvox green algae. Differential interference contrast (DIC) light micrograph of a Volvox globator colony. Volvox are small, colonial green algae that make up a larger spherical colony, almost acting as a multicellular organism. The bright green sphere (centre) within the colony is a daughter colony. Here, the daughter colony is inverting (turning inside out) to bring their flagella to the outer surface. Magnification: x250 when printed 10 centimetres wide.
