Caption: Giant water flea eye. Differential interference contrast (DIC) light micrograph of a compound eye of a giant water flea (Leptodora kindtii). Water fleas are small crustaceans found in aquatic habitats. This extremely transparent and large species (up to 2 centimetres across) is a predator of other water fleas. It possesses a single large compound eye. Magnification: x160 when printed 10 centimetres high.
