This is a species of sunflower, native to eastern North America. This kind of tuberous sunflower may be over 3m high. It blooms late in the fall with small sunflower-like blooms. The tubers in the ground are characteristic by their inulin contents (in contrast to starch present in potato tubers). Image width: 122 micrometers.
