Caption: Star sand is the exoskeleton of foraminifers found on beaches of the Indo-Pacific. These are protozoa that belong to the Foraminifera family. The shell is made of calcium carbonate, when they die, their star shaped exoskeleton washes up on the beaches in enormous numbers. Magnification is 1.5x at 35mm.
