Caption: Protein growth. Series of 30 pictures showing the growth of a protein crystal whilst in microgravity in orbit. The protein is alpha crustacyanin taken from lobster tails. The experiment starts at top left. Pictures taken every 5 hours of the experi- ment are in the column beneath; when the bottom of the column is reached the next picture is at the top of the column to the right. The crystal has a granular appearance. Photographed aboard the European satellite EURECA as part of research into how crystallisation occurs in microgravity.
