Caption: Colour enhanced transmission electron micrograph of human pancreatic acinar cell. The glandular cell that has been most extensively studied by both biochemical and morphological approaches is the pancreatic acinar cell shown here. The cell apex is crowded with spherical zymogen granules (blue) of uniform size. Cisternae of the endoplasmic reticulum that follow a meandering course among the secretory granules are more variable in width and less highly ordered than those at the cell base.
