Caption: Colour-enhanced Transmission Electron Micrograph (TEM) showing the broccoli necrotic yellow virus, or BNYV. This is an enveloped RNA-containing virus with bacilliform particles, often appearing bullet-shaped. Morphologically, BNYV belongs to the Rhabdovirus group, which contains both plant and animal viruses. The only known host for BNYV is Brassica oleracea, the species that includes the cultivars broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, kale, and Brussels sprouts.
