Caption: Thurston Lava Tube, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, Island of Hawaii. The tube was discovered in 1913 by Lorrin Thurston, a local newspaper publisher. The tunnel was originally formed by flowing lava which created its own tube before the flow ceased.
