Caption: Star trails over Mount Teide, Tenerife. Time-exposure image of star trails around the North Celestial Pole over the Mount Teide volcano on the island of Tenerife, Canaries. Taken at night, this image shows the landscape of the Teide National Park, a World Heritage Site, illuminated by the moon, car lights at right, and a the red flashlight of a walking hiker (lower left). The Pico del Teide (3718 metres) is 500,000 years old. It rises some 7500 metres above the floor of the Atlantic Ocean, making the summit of Teide the highest point in the Atlantic basin. Photographed in September.
