Caption: Desertification prevention. Man watering a young salt cedar (Tamarix sp.) tree that has been planted as part of measures to help prevent desertification of a nearby oasis. Increasing desertification is an ever-present problem in regions bordering the Sahara Desert. Planting trees helps to maintain humidity in the area, preventing further desertification. In the background are squares of palm tree leaves used to help prevent the shifting sand of nearby dunes from over-running the oasis. Photographed in Morocco.
