Caption: Fire is a natural agent that shapes ecosystems. This prescribed (controlled) burn covered over 6,000 acres of marshland of the Apalachicola Bay area. The time of year a burn is conducted, how often the area is burned, and the weather conditions at the time of the burn determines how it will alter the ecosystem. Note the flames in the background and the two Bald Eagles in one of the trees. This burn took place on 25 January 2013.
