Caption: Slit-scan, or strip photography is a photographic technique and cinematographic process where a moveable slide, into which a slit has been cut, is inserted between the camera and the subject to be photographed. Strip photography (or slitscan photography) is a photographic technique that captures a contuous sequence of 2-dimensional images or video over time. As the slit moves across the film or digital sensor, one moves in time, rather than, or in addition to, moving in space. The image shows a bunch of magnolias rotating in a vase whilst a horizontal slit moves from top to bottom. The most well know applications of this technique can be seen in the psychedelic sequence at the end of Stanley Kubrick's '2001 a space odyssey', and on race-finish images of the finish lines of horse racing tracks.
