Caption: Triple point of nitrogen. Close-up footage of liquid nitrogen in a gas jar being brought to its triple point as the pressure is reduced using a pump. The triple point is where a substance exists in three phases (gas, liquid and solid) in thermodynamic equilibrium. For nitrogen, this point is at 0.124 of an atmosphere and a temperature of minus 210 degrees Celsius. Nitrogen ice and gas both form along with the liquid when the triple point is reached.
