Caption: Sea crab. 18th-century illustration of a sea crab, possibly a rubble crab (Daldorfia horrida). Artwork by German-born naturalist Maria Sibylla Merian (1647-1717) from 'D'Amboinische Rariteikamer' (1705) by Georg Eberhard Rumphius. Merian agreed to do the artwork for this book after returning from Surinam. Her drawings for this project were recently discovered in the archives of the Academy of Sciences in St Petersburg.
