Caption: Australasian marsupials, 19th-century illustrations. Clockwise from top left: a Tasmanian devil (Sarcophilus harrisii), a koala (Phascolarctos cinereus), a Tasmanian wolf (Thylacinus cynocephalus), and a possum (Pseudocheirus peregrinus). This plate, with contemporary hand colouring, is from F. J. Beruch's 'Bilderbuch fur Kinder' (1821). These are the first coloured representation of several of these Australasian marsupials.
