Caption: Copper Plate Published London 1705-64 for "Navigantium atque Itinerantium Bibliotheca; A compleat collection of voyages and travels" by John Harris. Shows the manticore of Ctesias set in the African landscape. Harris clearly considers the animal as no more unlikely than the zebras or giraffe he also illustrates. Indeed it is rather more lion like in this image.
