Caption: Johan Nieuhof (1618-1672), Dutch traveller, explorer and author who wrote about his journeys to Brazil, China and India. The most famous of these was a trip of 2400 km from Canton to Peking during the period 1655 to 1657, which brought some of the first accurate views of China back to a Western audience. He wrote 'An embassy from the East-India Company' containing his written account of this journey.
