Caption: Caddisfly. Coloured scanning electron micrograph of a caddisfly (order Trichoptera), showing its compound eyes (red), antennae (top) and large mouthparts (centre). Caddisflies are moth-like insects that have hairy wings rather than the scaled wings of moths and butterflies. The larvae are voracious aquatic predators that build protective cases out of silk and plant debris. Magnification: x16, when printed 10 cm wide.
