Caption: ExoMars Schiaparelli thermal testing. Engineers carrying out thermal testing in 2015 on the flight model of Schiaparelli, the ExoMars Demonstrator Module (EDM) lander, at the ESP70 Thermal Vacuum Chamber at Thales Alenia Space, Cannes, France, in June and July 2015. Temperatures ranged from minus 100 degrees Celsius to 30 degrees Celsius, in high-vacuum conditions. Schiaparelli and the ExoMars Trace Gas Orbiter (TGO) were launched on 14 March 2016, to arrive at Mars in October 2016. Schiaparelli will enter the atmosphere, test landing technologies for the ExoMars rover (2018), and land scientific instruments to study surface conditions.
