Biomass material (such as wood and other organic waste) at left enters the burner-boiler section where it is burnt, forming waste gases, smoke, and ash. The heat generated boils water in a steam drum (cylindrical). The resulting steam is piped to turbines (lower right) where electricity is generated. The steam is condensed and piped back to the steam drum. Excess heat and steam is vented through cooling towers (bottom right). The electricity is transformed and distributed through a grid of pylons and cables (bottom right). Unlabelled version: C029/1639.
