Caption: Concave and convex mirrors. Animation showing a mirror varying in curvature, from convex to concave and back to convex. The image in a convex mirror is smaller and not reversed. The image in a concave mirror varies depending on the distance to the object (or in this case the varying curvature). When the mirror changes from convex to concave, the image starts off magnified and upright. Then the image briefly disappears. The image then reappears flipped vertically and magnified, diminishing as the concave curvature increases. The reverse happens when moving from maximum concavity towards convexity. The silver and gold tubes show how the image changes as the mirror changes from convex to concave and back to convex.
