Caption: Heating potassium chlorate. Close-up footage of a blowtorch being used to heat potassium chlorate (white) in a test tube. This is preparing the chemical for use in an oxidation reaction. Potassium chlorate is a powerful oxidising agent, and rapidly oxidises chemicals such as sugar, generating a lot of heat and producing carbon dioxide and steam. This reaction is seen in clip K005/6249 and clips K004/0787 and K004/0788.
