Caption: Soviet Phobos lander equipment diagram. Technical drawing of Phobos lander equipment deployed on the surface of Mars. Phobos was an unmanned space mission consisting of two probes launched by the Soviet Union to study Mars and its moons Phobos and Deimos. Both probes were launched in July 1988, but Phobos 1 failed en route to Mars. Phobos 2 attained Mars orbit, but contact was lost before deployment the lander.
