Caption: Dileptus. Light microscope footage of the ciliate protozoan Dileptus sp. hunting for food. Ciliate protozoa are tiny single-celled aquatic organisms which move by the rhythmic beating of many hair-like cilia. Species of the genus Dileptus occur in fresh and salt water, and are aggressive predators of smaller organisms. Filmed with differential interference contrast illumination.
