There are two types of Parechoviruses: Parechovirus A (human Parechovirus) which causes mild, gastrointestinal or respiratory illness, and more rarely myocarditis and encephalitis; Parechovirus B (zoonotic, also called Ljungan virus) which is associated with diabetes, intrauterine death of fetus in human, brain pathology and developmental disorders in newborns.
