Caption: Tibial spur. Coloured X-ray of the foot of a 22-year-old male patient with a spur (osteophyte, highlighted) affecting the tibia (shin bone). Bone spurs bone projections that form along the ends of joints. They may be caused by bone degeneration, aging and diseases such as arthritis. They usually do not need treatment if not causing any symptoms. However, anti-inflammatory drugs and surgery may be used for worse cases.
