Caption: Strombolian activity, Mount Bromo volcano. Lava and smoke and fumes rising from the vent of Mount Bromo, viewed from the crater rim at dusk. Mount Bromo is a pyroclastic volcanic cone in the Tengger Caldera, Java, Indonesia. At an elevation of 2392 metres, Mount Bromo rises 133 metres above the surrounding floor of the massive (9 by 10 kilometres) Tengger Caldera. This caldera is the result of the collapse of the top half of a stratovolcano over 250,000 years ago. Bromo has been frequently active since historical records began, with a total of over 50 eruptions being recorded since 1804. Footage obtained in March 2011.
