Caption: The Russian nuclear icebreaker Yamal during Arctic exploration in the Kara Sea, north of Siberia, Russia. The Yamal is one of the most powerful icebreakers in the world. She is equipped with a double hull, the outer hull being 48 millimetres thick in places, with a polymer coating to reduce friction. Ships of this type must cruise continually in cold water to cool their reactors.
