Caption: Pancreas acinus. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of a freeze-fracture through an acinus (yellow) in the pancreas. An acinus is a collection of glandular epithelial cells. Here, zymogen granules (pink) secrete pancreatic enzymes into the central tube (lumen). These enzymes will then pass to the intestines and be used to digest food. Extracellular connective tissue (pink) surrounds the acinus. Magnification: x3250 when printed at 10 centimetres wide.
