Caption: 1748 solar eclipse. Historical artwork entitled 'The Geography of the Great Solar Eclipse of July 14 MDCCXLVIII', showing the path of the shadow of totality of the eclipse. A map of the world as it was known then is shown (centre), with the path of the eclipse's shadow marked on it (grey band). Around the edges are a number of diagrams showing what the sun would have looked like at specific times, in various cities around the world. These include: Dublin, Ireland (top left); Vienna, Austria (top right); Cork, Ireland (bottom left); and Moscow, Russia (bottom right).
