Caption: Saline endorheic basin, satellite image. North is at top. This image from 2013 shows saline waters (green) forming Lake Poopo in an endorheic basin on the high Altiplano plateau in the Andes of Bolivia. This lake is at an elevation of around 3700 metres. Most of the water is from the Desaguadero River to the north. When this supply fails, the lake dries up. This occurred in December 2015, with the resulting salt flats shown in image C029/8925. This multispectral image was obtained by the SPOT 6 satellite in March 2013.
