Caption: Dried-up endorheic basin, satellite image. North is at top. This image from 2016 shows salt flats (white) following the drying of Lake Poopo, in an endorheic basin on the high Altiplano plateau in the Andes of Bolivia. This former lake is at an elevation of around 3700 metres. Most of the water was from the Desaguadero River to the north. When this supply fails, the lake dries up. This occurred in December 2015. For the lake before it dried up, see image C029/8924. This multispectral image was obtained by the SPOT 7 satellite in January 2016.
