Caption: Male Sumatran orangutan (Pongo abelii). The orangutan is an arboreal (tree-dwelling) great ape endemic to Sumatra. An adult male does not seem to have a defined territory, and never fights other males. It is a solitary animal, meeting others only to mate. This wild male orangutan is near 30 years of age. It had followed a rehabilitated female in oestrous to a feeding station in Gunung Leuser National Park, Sumatra, Indonesia.
