Caption: White-handed gibbon (Hylobates lar). This small arboreal (tree-dwelling) ape lives in tropical rainforests throughout Southeast Asia. It is extinct in China. It takes its name from its white hands and feet, although the rest of the coat varies between individuals from black to pale brown. It is predominantly herbivorous, eating flowers, leaves and fresh fruit.
