Caption: Young Antilles pinktoe tarantula (Avicularia versicolor). Close-up of a juvenile Antilles pinktoe tarantula, showing the hairs covering its body. This small arboreal tarantula is native to the Caribbean islands of Guadeloupe, Martinique, and the Dominica Islands. Juveniles are a metallic blue colour (as here). As the spiders mature, they add warmer metallic colors such as pinks and reds to their appearance. Ultimately, the entire abdomen and all of the legs are a red color with a blue carapace.
