In materials science, fatigue is the progressive and localized structural damage that occurs when a material is subjected to cyclic loading. Mechanical fatigue testing involves subjecting a material or object to various cyclic loading forces, such as stretching, in order to determine its structural and physical limits. The results of the testing are recorded and logged on a graph which can be viewed on the screen (left).
