Caption: Cumin seeds, coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM). These seeds are from Cuminum cyminum, a flowering plant in the family Apiaceae. A seed contains an embryo (a fertilised ovule from which a new plant can grow), and a supply of food. Seed shapes and surface textures vary widely, affecting how they are dispersed from their parent plant. As well as it's culinary use, Cumin is used as a digestive aid. Magnification: x10 when printed 10 centimetres wide.
