Caption: Borneo pygmy elephant (Elephas maximus borneensis). This elephant inhabits tropical rainforests in north Borneo. It is critically endangered and it is estimated only about 1000 remain (2007). The pygmy elephant is a subspecies of the Asian elephant, the differences mainly being that it is smaller and has bigger ears. Photographed by Kinabatangan River, Sabah, Malaysian Borneo.
