Caption: Pleiades star cluster, infrared image. This is the "tangled silver braid" part of this open star cluster, where the stars are surrounded by a cloud of gas and dust (red) through which they are travelling. One of the parent stars, Atlas, can be seen at the bottom, while six of the sisters are visible at top. Additional stars in the cluster are also seen. The Pleiades star cluster is over 400 light years from Earth, in the constellation of Taurus. This image was obtained by the Spitzer Space Telescope (SST).
